April 1945 in Brettheim, in the east of Württemberg. SS units make short trial of a farmer, the mayor and the local group leader for undermining military strength because they want to prevent a senseless defense of the village by four Hitler Youth. They were hanged in the Brettheim cemetery. When the SS subsequently declared Brettheim a cornerstone of the German defense, the village was largely destroyed during the American attack. Students from the Oskar-von-Miller secondary school in Rothenburg ob der Tauber documented the events of the last days of the war in Brettheim in a film as part of a long-term project. The project, sponsored and exported by the Goethe-Institut, attracted worldwide attention.

To complement the reading of the book “Mit der Faust in der Hand” by Katja Hildebrand, in which the tragedy of the “Men of Brettheim” is told from the perspective of the fictitious Hitler Youth Georg, the Jewish Museum Creglingen will be showing the award-winning documentary film by Thilo Pohle and the film group from the Oskar-von-Miller-Realschule, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, on Thursday, November 21, 7:00 pm
